Unique exhibit of wooden wall hangings on display

Oklahoma City-based artist Don Narcomey’s newest exhibit of wall hangings, “Whole,” is currently on display in the Oklahoma state Capitol.

Oklahoma City-based artist Don Narcomey’s newest exhibit of wall hangings, “Whole,” is currently on display in the Oklahoma state Capitol.

The exhibit is one of the more unique ones that the Governor’s Gallery has hosted, said Alyson Atchison, curator of education and Capitol galleries for the Oklahoma Arts Council.

“Narcomey is a meticulous craftsman who pays great attention to detail, and it shows in his work,” Atchison said. “He works with wood in a way that makes it hard to recognize that it is actually wood. He makes it beautiful and gives it new life.”

The artist said that “Whole” was inspired by his own personal journey. “At this point in my personal life, I feel a sense of completeness that I haven’t felt in a long time,” said Narcomey in a press release. “I’ve patched the holes and rebuilt the bridges in my life, and as a result, I am feeling whole again.”

“Whole” is on display from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, through March 6, in the Governor’s Gallery, located on the Capitol’s second floor. For more information, call 521-2931 or visit arts.ok.gov. —Courtney Silva
