Motor vehicle insurance shows year-over-year raise

Prices rise month over month, as well.

Gazette staff February 23rd, 2011

Gasoline isn’t the only thing going up related to your automobile. Add motor vehicle insurance to the list.

As reported Feb. 18 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in its most recent Consumer Price Index report, insurance policies for drivers rose slightly between December and January, with a 0.2 percent uptick. That reflects a continuing trend of steady increases throughout 2010; the only dip came between November and December, but by only 0.3 percent, and after the year’s two largest hikes at that.

Compared to January 2010, last month’s national average for vehicle insurance was 4.5 percent higher. —Gazette staff
