Camp Fire hosts halloween camp

Gazette staff October 25th, 2007

Searching for something spooky but safe that the whole family can enjoy this weekend? Look no further than Camp Fire USA's 33rd Annual Haunted Forest Hayride at Camp DaKaNi, 3309 E. Hefner.

"It's a fun family evening," Camp DaKaNi Director Crystal Daniels said. "There's something for everybody."

Halloween-lovers young and old are invited to jump on the trailer for a hayride through the Haunted Forest, where scary scenes await! Look out for witches, werewolves, toxic waste and chainsaw-wielding monsters.

"You never know who's going to come at you," Daniels warned.

Families can recover from the fright of the forest with a calming moonlight trail hike to the picnic pavilion for a hot-dog dinner.

And what would a camp experience be without the classic s'more? Families can make a donation to United Way and receive all the ingredients needed to create the sweet treat over a roaring campfire.

After filling up their bellies, kids can exercise their imagination with a walk through the Pumpkin Patch and carnival games like a Klown Train Ride and craft-making. Really little ones can enjoy the Children's Spooky House, and even dig up fake bones in a sandbox boneyard and get candy.

"The Spooky House is more like a trick-or-treat trail," Daniels said.

The hayride is open from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Monday, and from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $5 per person ages 3 and up, with additional charges for carnival games. For more information, call 478-5646.
