Country rocker gets retrospective

Last week saw the release of “The Best of Leon Russell,” a 16-track collection of the Oklahoma native’s biggest hits of the 1970s, plus one song from last year’s collaborative album with Elton John.

A recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Russell made a Billboard splash in the ’70s with songs like “If I Were a Carpenter,” “Tight Rope” and “Lady Blue,” all represented on Capitol Records’ new compilation. —Rod Lott
