Where we're going, we don't need leases

Economy upturn results in car lease downturn

Gazette staff April 20th, 2011

With a rosier outlook on jobs growth, more people are opting to dump their leases for personal cars, and drive company-issued vehicles instead, finds one website.

According to LeaseTrader.com, lease escapees saw a 5.3-percent increase in March, following a 4.8-percent jump in February.

“On the surface, the jobs outlook is brightening which creates an environment for rising confidence among drivers and households,” said Sergio Stiberman, the website’s founder and CEO. “The increase in jobs creates more company-issued vehicles, and in these cases, people look to shed their personal car leases.” —Gazette staff
