The event is free and open to parents, teenagers and anyone looking to become more educated on the topic of American youth and their attitudes toward sex in today’s society, said Kathy Harms, executive director of Teen emPower!, the organization hosting the screening.
“Teenagers, parents and educators need to be more open about these topics,” she said. “The better understanding we have of adolescent sexuality, the more we can do to educate on how to be responsible.”
Through interviews with teenagers, parents and health experts, “Let’s Talk About Sex” examines how our nation’s attitudes toward sex impact teenagers, and what tactics other countries use to educate them.
“Oklahoma ranks fifth in nation for births to teens ages 15 to 19,” Harms said. “Pretending like it’s not an issue isn’t going to get us anywhere. Hopefully, people leave the screening with a different mind-set and a changed perspective on how we should go about educating our teenagers about sex.”
