Included among the “Bright Night of Sports” activities are a planetarium show and a “Science Live!” show.

On Friday, Science Museum Oklahoma welcomes kids of all ages and their parents for “Bright Night of Sports,” an overnight event focusing on the science of sports and nutrition.

Alex Mattison, communications coordinator for the museum, said the “science of the gross” will be utilized to help explain these concepts, and he expects this to better catch the children’s attention.

“It’s really finding ways to get kids to identify with the science of how the body works, and then, in addition to that, showing them the science behind how some of their favorite sports work, as well,” Mattison said.

The event will contain a wealth of hands-on and interactive experiments and experiences, many of which would not be available on a normal day at the museum, such as an activity with the Oklahoma City Barons hockey team.

“It’s just trying to find that inroad to get them interested in science in a way that maybe they haven’t been shown yet,” Mattison said.

Guests are welcome to camp out in the museum, as the event begins at 6 p.m. Friday and lasts until 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

The cost is $45 per person with all activities included, or $20 for those parents who might not want to take part in some of the more hands-on stuff. One adult is required for every six kids.
