A new 'Hamlet'

Her critically acclaimed “My Brooklyn Hamlet” is a real-life story of forgiveness that bears similarities to the Bard’s original. Her tale explores her own process of forgiveness of her father, who shot and killed her mother some 16 years ago, only to end up marrying her aunt.

“Well, it’s a coming-of-age story for me, but it’s also ultimately about the power of forgiving the unforgivable,” Adelman said.

She plays 11 characters, including her parents, utilizing selected soliloquies from the original “Hamlet,” including the famous “to be, or not to be” speech.

Adelman has performed her emotional show in many places with success, including London and Los Angeles. The first time she performed it was in 2000. Ironically enough, her Oklahoma City performance about forgiving her father takes place during Father’s Day weekend.

The show is being held to raise funds for Oklahoma City author Dayna Dunbar, Adelman’s life partner. Dunbar is having serious medical troubles.

“My Brooklyn Hamlet” begins at 7:30 p.m.; live music, a raffle and other festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. Then on Monday, Adelman will lead a workshop on forgiveness.
