Fireworks aren’t reserved just for the Fourth of July anymore. They will illuminate the sky Sunday at the Arts Festival Oklahoma, following the Oklahoma City Philharmonic’s performance.

Held on the Oklahoma City Community College campus, the 33rd annual festival will span the length of the Labor Day weekend and will house 164 art booths and various performance artists.

“The festival started as a way to showcase Oklahoma artists, and it has certainly grown over the past 33 years,” said Cordell Jordan, OCCC media relations coordinator. More than 22,000 people visited AFO last year, and Jordan said he expects about the same number or more this weekend.

The featured artists are predominantly in-state, but some come from as far away as California and Nebraska, he said. Their works come in a variety of media, including jewelry, pottery, sculpture, watercolors, pastels and more.

Thirteen food vendors will be scattered throughout the grounds, serving up everything from corn dogs to various ethnic foods.

The festival will be located at the north end of OCCC, at S.W. 74th Street and May Avenue. Parking is $5, but admission is free. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.
