Oklahoma Gazette Letters to the Editor: Don't discriminate

The Marriage Equality Rights for Oklahoma movement was launched to give hope and accomplish civil equality rights to the many people in this state oppressed by being discriminated against for sexual orientation. It is a movement to bring awareness on gay discrimination to all communities and also say it’s never too early or late to make a change.

People ask how they can help. Here are few ways to create changes and a positive impact for this movement: for the communities to work together to educate people on this movement is one, but to also educate people who have never really talked about or been educated on homosexuality. There are a lot of stigmas that come with the words “gay” or “homosexual” that unfortunately have been passed down from older generations to the younger generations.

With new reports being published daily, there seems to be more open-mindedness across the table for our community within the younger generations here in this state and nationwide.

There are also more people coming out and more support both vocally and physically for civil equality and rights from people in all walks of life. If you would like to help with this movement or would like more information, please join the Marriage Equality Rights for Oklahoma on Facebook and make sure to sign the petition that is set up on Change.org.

I know this is a conservative state, but that’s no reason or excuse for discrimination to be legal here or anywhere else.
