Food stamps and munchies

Marty Morelli September 20th, 2011

This letter concerns Kurt Hochenauer’s Commentary “War on logic” (Aug. 3, Oklahoma Gazette): Hochenauer states that the war on drugs is not working, and that one answer is to legalize them.

It’s true that many people in society use alcohol and overeating to help medicate themselves. Why not add drugs to the list? The billions of dollars that formerly went toward drug enforcement could be used to help fund the food stamp program. Sitting around all day smoking weed can leave one pretty hungry.

A word of caution: Don’t dare light a cigarette in public, a firecracker on the Fourth of July or forget to wear your seat belt. These are criminal offenses and are punishable under the law. Also, if you are a 20 year old returning from military service in Iraq or Afghanistan, don’t dare try to buy a beer. This, too, is a grave offense.
