The Yippee Yi-Yo Show' comes to Oklahoma City

Gazette staff December 13th, 2007

Wish your kids had their own equivalent of "Captain Kangaroo," with all the comedy, music and puppets? Wish no more: "The Yippee Yi-Yo Show" is here to save the day.

The yesteryear-style television show promises all that " and bubbles " at a live performance 2 p.m. Saturday at the City Arts Center Theatre, 3000 General Pershing.

Have a rip-roarin' good time with host Cowboy Frank and his gang of puppets and pardners, complete with musical guests and cartoons. And it's not just for kids.

"We want everybody to feel welcome, no matter how old you are," said Kari Hirst Starkey, writer and producer of the program. "We want kids to be inspired by the fact that every single aspect of the show is done by someone in Oklahoma."

The opening act is a local school group from Western Village Elementary that will sing and dance. The middle act is a pair of award-winning yodeling and fiddling sisters and their family band. The headlining band is Oklahoma's own Sugar Free Allstars, who have a hit song on XM Kids Radio called "Bathtub Boy."

Hirst Starkey said the idea of the live show is to provide high-quality performing arts for children.

"I think there are more mothers like me out there who want live entertainment for our kids," she said. "The more stuff that's available for children in the arts, the better."

Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. For more information, call 204-1845 or visit their site.
