Tuesday, ongoing

Tots age 2 to 5 can take steps to become the future artists of America by immersing themselves in a hands-on art environment, as a part of Tiny Tuesdays at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, 415 Couch.

Parents can work with their children from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at this month’s art activity, “Stars Over Havana.”

This once-a-month program to get children involved in the arts is led by Erin Oldfield, and sports a different theme each time, coordinated to holidays, special occasions and the museum’s exhibitions.

“The ‘Stars Over Havana’ is pairing with the ‘Faded Elegance: Photographs of Havana by Michael Eastman,’ and it looks like they are maybe going to do a city scene at night because she has black paper, white paint and scrap paper,” said Chandra Boyd, education curator.

The intent of the program is to encourage families to create art together, as well as enhance the understanding and appreciation of art in the museum.

“They like painting. They like cutting and gluing — it’s really just the process. They aren’t as concerned with what they’re making. It’s just about having fun,” Boyd said.

Participants must pay museum admission, but there are no additional costs.

Families are welcome to come and go as they please, and no advance registration is required.
