Creepy crawly creatures will roam the Crystal Bridge as a part of the Halloween-themed Creepy Conservatory.

The nature-oriented event will show children of all ages a variety of gruesome critters that, in nature, could inhabit the ecosystem the Crystal Bridge emulates.

Children can be horrified and amazed at the beasts they’ll see from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, with the purchase of regular admission to the Crystal Bridge, 301 W. Reno. Admission is free for kids under 4, $4 for ages 4-12, and $7 for adults.

“This gives us the opportunity to bring in more animals to show people the types of animal life that could exist in the tropical areas that make up the plant life in the Crystal Bridge,” said Jennifer Lindsey-McClintock, Myriad Botanical Gardens spokeswoman.

Snakes, spiders, reptiles and cockroaches will be some of the life forms on display, some of which kids will be able to touch.

“We’ve got some warm and fuzzy animals as well, for the kids who don’t want to get too close to a snake or lizard or a spider,” Lindsey-McClintock said, noting some of the friendlier animals include chinchillas and fennec foxes.

Children who shy away from animals can learn about exotic plants while meandering the gardens’ tropical trick-or-treat trail. There will also be craft activities. For more information, call 297-3995 or visit myriadgardens.com. —Carmen Forman
