Education and entertainment mix well at Science Museum Oklahoma’s annual Chemistry Day.

Carmen Forman November 2nd, 2011

Friday

Chemistry has morphed from a boring class subject into a fun, interactive learning experience for kids, thanks to Science Museum Oklahoma’s Chemistry Day.

Friday’s event is an annual one for the museum, and the first to be celebrated during the school year.

“There will be activities going on all across the museum floor, based around the theme of chemistry,” said Jacquelyn Musgrove, communications director, Science Museum Oklahoma. “It’s the ability to have a hands-on experience with chemistry and understand it and enjoy it.”

Six experiment stations will be set up throughout the building to entertain attending youngsters. Themes will include playing with polymers, reaction rockets, cold chemistry and a reaction station.

“They’re interactive experiment tables, so it’s not like you will just be watching an experiment,” Musgrove said. “You’ll be able to interact and participate in the experiment.”

Slated from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, the event is intended for school-aged kids, but open to all ages. No registration is required, except for school groups.

There is no cost to participate in Chemistry Day, beyond regular museum admission, which is $9.95 for kids 4-12, and $11.95 for those 13 or older.

For more information, call 602-3760 or visit sciencemuseumok.org.
