Sink, sank, sunk

Gazette staff December 7th, 2011

While we’re certainly not as adept at such reportage as our news-reporting cousins in the broadcast field, we here at Chicken-Fried News take every chance we can to remind you that no matter where you go or what you do, you are always in imminent danger of something.

We’ll let Oklahoma City’s KFOR-TV Channel 4 take it from here:

“Residents in Beckham County near Sayre say a massive sinkhole suddenly appeared overnight. They say it’s so big a small house can fit inside it.”

That’s about 40 feet wide and just as many deep, right in the middle of Beckham County resident Jack Damron’s farmland. Right out of the blue. Or the red Oklahoma dirt, rather.

Experts told KFOR’s Joleen Chaney that it’s likely unrelated to the recent seismic activity the state’s been experiencing — oh, boy, another thing that potentially could kill you without a moment’s notice — although it could have something to do with the recent drought. Which also very much could kill you.
