How to date your dragon

Best-selling and award-winning OKC authors release parody nonfiction.

Jenn Scott January 4th, 2012

Dating can be trying, at best. Maybe, just maybe, you’ve been dating the wrong kind of man — like, the living kind.

After a helpful quiz in “Dating the Undead: Loving the immortal man,” authored by a pair of Oklahoma City writers, you just might decide you’re better suited for zombies, vampires, dragons, shifters, angels or demons.

Move over Cosmo. This new, tongue-in-cheek book adopts the picture-friendly medium usually reserved for glossy magazines to create the ultimate guide of the erotic and mysterious world surrounding paranormal men.

“Mirroring the personalities of mortal men, the book creates new worlds with fantastical creatures,” explained co-author and best-selling novelist Gena Showalter.

For “Dating the Undead,” she teamed up with another Oklahoma City writer, award-winning romance novelist Jill Monroe.

“It was so much fun to write,” Monroe said of the new book. “We didn’t want to piggyback anyone’s mythology, so we had to develop some things, particularly with zombies.”

Whether you’re hot for Edward, Jacob, Bill, Eric, Sam or Alcide ... you’ll find tips for navigating your hunky, out-of-this world affair. Complete with a species breakdown and ways to seduce your immortal, you’ll be just as entertained by the specious ads ranging from “Jimmy Chews” to “Vladimir’s Secret” to “Zombitos.”

If you’re on the dating scene, you’ve likely lamented your limited options and resorted to blind, Internet and/ or speed dating. Maybe you should set those outings aside for a night and indulge your fantasies with this pair’s sultry foray into parody nonfiction.

Pick up the book and meet these talented OKCers at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Full Circle Bookstore, 1900 Northwest Expressway, as Showalter and Monroe sign their newly released “Dating the Undead.”
