Flower power

Jenn Scott February 8th, 2012

It’s Valentine’s Day season, whether you’re in love or in hate with that idea … or an actual person.

If you’ve got a special someone or a whole batch of special someones, sending and receiving flowers is one of life’s decadent treats. The receiver feels like the most special person, and the giver gets to bask in the joy of a companion or friend.

You know, maybe you just want some fresh flowers for your home? Whatever the case, flowers tend to elicit an instant perma-smile.

So, why not beautify a home or someone’s day with a dazzling bouquet from one of the top shops here in Oklahoma City?

If you’ve not been to A Date with Iris (4201 N. Western; 604-5959), stop by on your way to lunch at VZD’s or spare some time before dinner at Sushi Neko, because it’s open until 6:30 p.m. on weekdays.

This isn’t your average flower shop.

You’re sure to find a quirky and unique twist on an otherwise normal flower bunch. You’ll also find many gift ideas inside, so be sure you browse the welcoming store on the corner. Bonus:

Use your Keep It Local Card for 10 percent off flowers and merchandise (in-store only).

If you’re up north, you’ll find the established Trochta’s Flowers & Greenhouse (6700 N. Broadway Extension; 848-3338). Since its inception in the early ’50s, this petal pusher has served the metro by way of arrangements, parties and outdoor garden design.

Bonus: Shop with your OKCity Card from Allied Arts to receive 20 percent off in-store purchases. You can get a card for a $50 donation, and it’s good for a full year at 202 local spots.

One place that every person needs an arrangement from is Tony Foss Flowers (7610 N. May; 843-4119). Marked by its vibrant color and intricate design, Foss’ flowers are that of great detail and clean, modern lines. Foss also offers event services, so stop in and chat about that upcoming birthday, anniversary or wedding.

If you’re on the south side, you could pop into Betty Lou’s Flower & Gift (445 W. Gray, Norman; 364- 2400). Betty Lou is an FTD Master Designer and Master Florist, and lists “courteous” and “friendly” as draws to her south-side blossom.

No matter what area of the metro you’re in, treat yo’ self … or someone you love. Let’s shop, OKC!
