Remember the last time abortion matters consumed the state Legislature? It was 2010 — what a coincidence, another election year — when lawmakers overrode then-Gov. Brad Henry’s veto of a bill prohibiting a woman from getting an abortion unless she has an ultrasound of the fetus and either views the image herself or has a doctor describe it to her. A state judge suspended the would-be law shortly after its constitutionality was challenged by the Center for Reproductive Rights.
A hearing for summary judgment is slated Friday in Oklahoma County District Court. Perhaps not surprisingly, a CRR spokeswoman noted that the Personhood bill is “high on the radar” of measures they’re monitoring.
