Your yoga pants just became trendy.

Jenn Scott April 4th, 2012

Baseball season and March Madness don’t really change my life in any way. For many people, however, this time of year is consumed with balls and strikes, layups and rebounds.

I recently made a trip to New York, and I was surprised that even the fashion world has gotten sporty with it.

We live in Oklahoma, so we’re used to people out in public in questionable things like pajamas or workout gear, but this marks the first time that such attire is an actual trend.

Last year on the runway, designers began playing with incorporating active wear into fashionable pieces. So, all bets are off this spring when it comes to pants. From yoga pants to leggings, the theme is comfy, and street trends are following suit.

Most likely you’ve already got yourself some yoga pants or other athletictype tights. In case you don’t, try Red Coyote Running and Fitness (5800 N. Classen Blvd.; 840-0033), where you’ll find several styles and lengths of athletic pants.

Consider what shoe you’ll wear with them: a flat or a boot? What type of top will you wear? Will it be a jersey or a comfortable shirt with a glam belt?

After you’ve secured the pants — or non-pants, depending on your viewpoint — it’s time to decide what your overall look will entail.

If you’re supporting your local NBA team, there’s no better way to do so than with some Thunder gear. Make a stop into the Oklahoma City Thunder Shop (211 N. Robinson; 208- 4800) in Leadership Square.

Opt for a jersey with your favorite player’s number or bring home a ball cap that proudly displays the Thunder logo. Keep in mind you can always pair that with yoga pants, plain T-shirt and a nicer scarf or shoes.

If you want to make a subtle sports statement, or just want to cash in on the comfy trend this spring, check out Tree and Leaf Apparel (8405 N. Rockwell; 728-2026) for a host of the softest tees around. Glam them up with jewelry or a statement-making hat. You can rock that all with your yoga pants and choice of shoes.

If you can’t quite get on board with the track pants, opt for the überpopular — and very colorful — denim leggings. You’ll find a selection of colors at Lush Fashion Lounge (14101 N.

May; 936-0608).

This way, you’ll still be able to satisfy that team spirit with color-appropriate and season-savvy trends.

Whether you support the Thunder, RedHawks or simply fashion’s curve ball for a leisurely wardrobe, you’ll find all you need close by. Let’s shop, OKC!
