It’s bathing suit season! After a winter hibernation and days
donning tights and knee-high boots and long-sleeved shirts, it’s a
little shocking to replace the full-body cover with a few pieces of
stretchy fabric. Whether your body is swimwear-ready or not, you can always adopt the fake-it-’til-you-make-it mentality and suit up for any occasion.
At Northpark Mall, you’ll find L.A. Sun & Sport (12100 N. May; 752-2627), which can get you covered — literally. Even if your abs aren’t quite ready for that super-hot tassel bikini (the shop has L*Space tassel tops in stock, so hurry!), take a look around at the cover-up selections boasting bright colors and prints.
Start in the shallow end of swimsuit season if you need; after all, it has been a year since you’ve rocked so much skin!
The shop is also home to PilyQ, a swim line that’s über-feminine and chic. Just add a pool and a cocktail, and you’ll be set.
If you’re more about the practicality of swimwear or on the hunt for a suit that’s gym-appropriate with a little bit of pizzazz, you’ll want to check out D & J Sports (333 W. Hefner; 775-0057).
This all-sports shop carries such brands as Nike, Adidas, Speedo and Tyr, and styles ranging from the conservative lap suit with crisscross back to the sassy two-piece that still offers a fair amount of coverage.
Guys also have some options here, including the traditional men’s trunk, the shorter trainer cut or the semi-elusive and incredibly brave brief (aka banana hammock).
Erin Royce Clothing (7314 N.
Western; 608-0148), also manages to consider the men. Get the classic trunk with a little bit of a spin and a tad shorter with the mid-length cut.
Show some leg, guys! You’ll find the trunks in a variety of colors, and the store is frequently getting in new shipments. Currently, there are some Popsicle-brand, blue-striped patterns perfect for any pool party.
Whether you’re feeling conservative and staying covered up, or you’ve been working on your beach-ready body for months, be sure to wear sunscreen (and day-drink responsibly).
And, of course, have some fun.
Let’s shop, OKC!
