Grab a group of friends and put on those thinking caps Thursday for the sixth annual Smarty Pants Trivia Night. Proceeds benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s local chapter.
“Our main purpose is for multiple sclerosis awareness and to raise money for a good cause and to have a lot of fun,” said Lucy Fraser, director of development for the Oklahoma chapter of the National MS Society.
Teams of 10 compete in seven categorized rounds of trivia starting at 7 p.m.
“The teams have answer sheets on their tables, so they work together. They mark their answer sheet and then those are collected and scored,” she said. “At the end of the evening, all the scores are tallied, and we will be awarding a trophy to the winning team.”
This year features new videobased questions.
“The video rounds are really fun.
We’ll do clips from either movies or TV shows, and then there’ll be a question at the end of it,” Fraser explained.
Many companies recruit employees to participate, including Cox Communications, the trivia night’s major sponsor. Fraser noted that the same team has won the trivia contest the last four years. making them “the ones to beat.”
For those who aren’t as competitive with trivia, there are other ways to win the night.
“We have raffle packages, as well as our traditional ‘wall of wine’ wine pull,” Fraser said.
Tickets for the raffle are $20 each or three for $50. Wine pull tickets are $20.
Carino’s Italian Restaurant of Yukon provides complimentary hors d’oeuvres for the evening, along with beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages.
Proceeds will go toward Oklahoma programs and services provided by the National MS Society.
“There are approximately 3,000 folks who are registered with us and have a diagnosis of MS,” said Fraser “But we know that there are more people than that in Oklahoma who do have the disease and either haven’t heard about us or don’t want to talk about it.
What it all boils down to with the MS Society is we want to find the cause and the cure for this disease. In order to do that, we need to raise money and awareness, and that’s what we’re hoping to accomplish with a really fun event.”
To register, call 488-1300 or visit nationalmssociety.org/smartypants. Individual tickets cost $40 and a table for 10 costs $400.
