No, fall is my favorite because the breezes are cooler and the leaves change into beautiful hues of red, brown and yellow. The days are shorter (hooray, nighttime!) and warm drinks of the cider variety are highly encouraged. Also, the scarves. Oh, the scarves!
For many Oklahomans, however, fall is football. I know I’m in the minority on this, and while I can’t endorse the numerous hours that will be logged watching grown men tackle one another, I can get onboard with all the cute University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University memorabilia that will roll out this season.
I attended both colleges, but my house is not divided. My loyalty belongs to Pistol Pete.
Whether your closet leans orange and black or crimson and cream, you need an adequate supply of your team-themed shirts, glassware, blankets, decorative bears and whatever else a proud supporter might need.
At House of Bedlam in Bricktown (208 Johnny Bench; 604-3024), fans will find more than just team T-shirts and hoodies. If you’ve got a collegiate cowboy or cowgirl, set them up with an OSU lanyard. It will help them keep their keys all in one place, and it’s great for stuffing in a backpack or looping around the wrist for a quick jog around Boom Lake.
Speaking of boomer, grab the Sooner fan in your life an Oklahoma-themed light switch cover.
If you’re in Norman for a game day, or want to get the most OU-y gear possible, then check out Sooner Schooner (1222 W. Lindsey; 329-6968), where you’ll find a variety of jerseys for men, women and children.
It has a wide stock of hats, T-shirts, polo-style shirts and girlie tees. Do you need an OU-branded toothpick holder? Of course you do! What about some floor mats for your car? You’re in luck at Sooner Schooner.
On the stylish end of one’s love of sports, touch down at Erin Royce Clothing (7314 N. Western; 608-0148), where you’ll truly understand the concept of teamwork. While you won’t necessarily find the obscure OU/OSUthemed items like automotive hitch covers and helmet magnets, you’ll find a selection of very appropriate team pride-inspired clothing.
Erin Royce has a few custom designs. If you’re more into dressing up, check out the orange blazer for those blustery fall evening games. Or pick up the chiffon, cuffed sleeve top.
You can even get a present for your fur baby, whether he or she is an OU or OSU fan.
If you’re into sports or into shopping — or both — don’t miss out on this season’s latest team-themed fun. Let’s shop, OKC!
