Why not move already?

Thomas L. Furlong October 24th, 2012

After reading Robin Meyers’ commentary, “An embarrassment of a senator” (Oct. 3, Oklahoma Gazette), I wonder why he chooses to live in Oklahoma.

A more liberal state like Caleeefornia, Oregon or Washington would consider him a state treasure. To think humans could alter the climate is hubris at its most significant.

I am often perpelexed by the audacity of those who tell others to move away because of a difference of opinion  (i.e. Christians telling Muslims to go back to the Middle East or Whites telling Blacks to go back to Africa).  When you think about the diversity that our country was founded on, it seems regressive to try and oust those we disagree with.

I have disagreed with nearly everything Tom Furlong puts in this paper, but not for a minute would I consider telling him to relocate his existence just to make me more confortable in mine.

That seems like a very immature means of dealing with conflict.  If I'm wrong, tell me.  Maybe if we're not to busy telling eachother to move away we can take the time to understand what motivates one another.

I don't take it as Tom as telling others to move away, rather asking him why does he stay in Oklahoma where Robin Meyers is not happy.

That's one way of looking at it I suppose.  I personally would not remain in this state if I didn't have wonderful extended family that lives here.  Actually, under no circumstances did I ever forsee my life bringing me here.  God had other plans for me,

While I do not know Robin Meyers, I imagine his motivations for sticking around are similar.  Or we could take the tact that as a Minister he is doing exactly what Jesus has taught him; to proselytize.  In that sense, Tom is doing the same.  Though I must have missed the part in the Bible where Jesus told the naysayers to GTFO.  Seems a tad Old Testament to me.
