Penn Square Mall, 1901 Northwest Expressway, is undergoing a massive facelift that includes not only upgraded restrooms, new signage and an enhanced food court, but also an array of recently opened stores like Microsoft, Sara Sara Cupcakes, L’Occitane, and Michael Kors.
“We didn’t want to disturb our holiday shoppers,” said Mis Gaston, director of marketing and business development for Penn Square Mall. “We’re doing little things now like painting and such.”
In addition, AMC has taken over management of the mall’s movie theater after the previous owner, Dickinson Theatres, filed for bankruptcy.
Once renovation of the AMC Penn Square is complete, it will have stadium-style seating as well as more snack options that include healthier alternatives. The multimillion-dollar project is scheduled to be completed by May, although the theater remains open during the transformation.
“It’s important to stay fresh and updated,” said Gaston. “We’re trying to bring in new stores and do things right. It’s very important, so we can keep evolving.”
The mall, which marked its 52nd anniversary in 2012, is owned by the Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group.
