OKG7 places to shake it up

Every week, we give you seven OKC-area restaurants to explore.

Jenn Scott January 23rd, 2013

It’s a new year and time to branch out. Whether it’s an unfamiliar restaurant or an old favorite in a new location, mix things up a little by venturing outside your normal eating habits.

Billy Sims BBQ
1001 E. State Highway 152, Mustang
billysimsbbq.com
256-0760

It’s a name you already know, just another location. Grab a combo plate, which includes a meat — from brisket to ribs — two sideliners, one super side and some Okie toast. Sideliners include potato salad, add-a-rib or baked beans, to name a few.

Chapala Mexican Grill
1001 Elm, Norman
801-2400

This new spot features a purely Tex- Mex menu with fajitas, enchiladas, and chips and salad. Grab a skillet of mixed meat and fajita-style veggies, as well as the usual suspects of bean, rice, pico, sour cream and guacamole to go alongside.

Upper Crust
1205 N.W. 178th, Edmond
uppercrust.ehsrg.com
285-8887

At this second location, you can expect the same delicious experience. Now Edmond residents can easily partake of the classic, wood-fired pizzas, house-made pie sauces and delectable salad offerings. Try a slice of cookie pie for dessert.

Allen’s Route 66 Pizza & More
3655 N.W. 39th Expressway
601-1300

The “& More” in the name represents a list of hot appetizers and healthy sides and sandwiches, as well as pasta. Its pizza is the standout, of course. Can’t decide on one thing? Try the buffet, available at lunch or dinner, for a sampling of the whole menu and a few specialty pizzas.

Costa Vida Fresh Mexican Grill
2300 W. Memorial
costavida.net
242-4717

“Let the coast come to you” is its motto, serving up fresh, all-natural Tex-Mex fare. Try the Deep Dive Nachos in one of three ways: chile verde, cheese or with your choice of pork, beef or grilled chicken. For your sweet tooth, there is traditional flan or a sweet cinnamon tortilla.

The Daily Donut
10911 N. Western
286-5599

Customers can start their day here with treats like cinnamon rolls, apple fritters, sausage rolls and, of course, donuts and coffee. But don’t miss the donut of the day. Monday’s feature is the bacon donut, and Key lime pie gets the spotlight on Fridays.

Moni’s Pasta & Pizza
17200 N. May, Edmond
285-5991

Start your meal with bruschetta or mozzarella sticks. Then, dive right into one of its many dinner options, ranging from favorites like cheese ravioli or lasagna to interesting fare like penne vodka and chicken rollatini, a chicken breast stuffed with cheese and basil in a creamy pink sauce.
