Treat yo’self!

Go ahead and indulge.

Tom Haverford, played by Aziz Ansari on TV’s Parks and Recreation, was onto something with his catchphrase, “Treat yo’self!”

The meme originated when Tom and one of his co-workers discussed a day once a year in which they indulge themselves. The comical back-and-forth produced suggested treats like “fine leather goods, fragrances, mimosas and massages.”

Every person’s idea of a treat is different. Me, I love nothing more than a hot bath while listening to some jazz tunes and sipping a nice champagne.

Cliché? Sure is. Amazing? Absolutely!

Whether you enjoy getting in a good sweat session at the gym or indulging in some retail therapy, Valentine’s Day is a fitting time to honor love in all forms. Even if you are without a significant other, don’t neglect the opportunity to celebrate friends and, more important, yourself.

One place you can take a load off your weary feet is Hair & Nail Salon (2800 N.W. 63rd; 841-1011). Hop in one of the massage chairs, pick out a polish color — guys, you can just opt for clear polish or none at all — and let the fumes take you away.

You’ll be treated with hot towels wrapped around your legs and a hand-and-arm massage. It doesn’t take up a whole day and it isn’t as expensive as a spa, so it’s the perfect mini-retreat on a stressful day or post-brunch activity.

If you are ready to splurge — after all, you’re treating yourself here — book some time at Renaissance Salon & Spa (10440 Broadway Extension; 751-8888).

The actual building you’ll be escaping to is an updated farmhouse originally built in 1911. The epitome of country chic, Renaissance is also a full-service Aveda Concept Salon, offering a variety of massages such as pregnancy, chakra balancing and couples aromatherapy.

After your mani-pedi and a fantastic massage, reward yourself a bit further with a cupcake. Even if you skip all aforementioned pampering, taking time out for a cuppie can be heavenly.

Located in Quail Springs Mall, Cupcake Heaven OKC (2501 W. Memorial; 751-2244) is open late and perfect for kicking off a session of retail therapy. The staff behind this family-owned-and-operated bakery turns out fresh cupcakes in the flavor of raspberry champagne, lemon pie, toffee caramel crunch and red velvet.

Try the cupcake truffles, too! If you’ve got a special dietary request, Cupcake Heaven can accommodate it.

Valentine’s Day is actually a win-win. It’s great to shower a loved one with treats, and to cherish the most important relationship you’ll ever have: the one with yourself. Let’s treat yo’selves, OKC!
