Schlegel Bicycles is gearing up for Ladies' Night, an event for any woman with even a casual interest in cycling.
Leslie Schlegel, CFO and general manager of Schlegel, said that the event is a fun social get-together meant to make women feel welcome in a sport that’s normally male-dominated.
Schlegel said that they try to do something a little different for the event, since they have a large number of ladies who return every year.
“One year we did a fashion show showcasing or newest cycling gear,” Schlegel said. “Another time we highlighted local nonprofit organizations.”
Schlegel said that several of those organizations will be represented at the event, and that they will be bringing bike gear to give away.
Proceeds from ticket sales go to Team Turtle, a group dedicated to promoting bicycle safety among children.
Schlegel participates in health festivals by giving out free helmets for kids and encourages children-centered activities, like helmet decorating, to promote bike safety.
“It gets [kids] excited
about wearing a helmet,” Schlegel said. “It makes them want to
wear it more.”
