
The mag noted McClendon had leveraged against his personally held oil and gas interests and has “mounds of debt.”
But don’t get out your tiny violin just yet. McClendon will leave Chesapeake April 1 with a severance package worth about $47 million. Although he’s no longer a billionaire (wiping tears away), he still won’t have to sweat out whether he pays the electric bill or water bill first.
If it’s any consolation, McClendon still has part ownership of the Oklahoma City Thunder and consequently remains a season ticket holder. Surely that helps take his mind off the life-altering dilemma of being a mega-millionaire instead of a billionaire.
