These seven establishments are worth your drive downtown ... and any battle for a parking space.


1889 Land Run Cafe

You can catch a piece of this menu from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day. Start your morning right with its breakfast buffet. For lunch, consider the weekly specials, only $10 a plate. You’ll most certainly want to save room for desserts like vanilla crème brûlée and molten chocolate lava cake with ice cream.


Thai Kitchen Cafe

Give the tao hoo thod (deep-fried tofu) a chance, even if you’ve never tried the stuff. The appetizer is served with a house-made sauce and ground peanuts. As for entrees, try the phat kra thiem — with roasted garlic, carrot and onion — or the kaeng phed, a red curry with bell peppers, pineapple and grapes.

Park Harvey Sushi offers counter space if you’re flying solo, tables for groups and, of course, 14 flat-screen TVs that have never missed a Thunder game. Owners Rachel and Fred Nguyen keep the atmosphere inviting and fun, but most of all they ensure a great selection of rolls. Try a special like the Durantula or Spicy Cowboy.


Sweets & Eats

Open for lunch weekdays from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., this comfy and rightly beloved eatery specializes in home-cooking. There is a blue-plate special every week, and you can get hearty meals like brown beans, chili or a variety of sandwiches. Save room for cake or a rice crispy treat.


Italian Express

This always-bustling gem is only open until 2 p.m. daily, so make sure to include it on your lunch list. Try its baked ziti, meaty lasagna or pasta pomodoro. All dishes are served with bread. Not feeling noodles? Go with the pizza instead, made fresh weekday mornings for the lunch buffet.

Need a healthy lunch on the go? Pick up a smoothie, sandwich or soup. From avocado tuna melts to jazzberry smoothies, your taste buds won’t even miss the extra calories. Pick up some veggies ’n’ dip — carrots, broccoli, celery and tomatoes — with light ranch or a fresh fruit cup. For you morning risers, opt instead for breakfast and coffee.

Downtown and hungry? Pop into The Library, located in the Robinson Renaissance building, because the restaurant has a completely redone menu awaiting your appetite. Sign up for its weekly email updates for specials. Last week, for example, was shrimp and spinach Alfredo, California spinach salad and blackened fish tacos, to name a few.
