Over the past decade, Adelante! Gallery has built a reputation — in its Paseo Arts District home and beyond — for fine Southwest, Western and contemporary art.
For its 10th-anniversary exhibit, gallery owner Cynthia Daniel Wolf said she is excited to continue that tradition with Art of the West, which opens with free receptions Friday and Saturday and coincides with the district’s First Friday Gallery Walk.
“Our patrons are what keeps us going and keeps the doors open,” she said.
Throughout Adelante!’s time in the Paseo, it has expanded and has acquired several local and nationally recognized artists. Art of the West will showcase new artwork from both.
Featuring four main artists and four guest artists, the exhibit shows how much the gallery has grown in the past 10 years, Wolf said. Not only has she been a witness to her gallery’s progress, but she has seen the Paseo blossom, as well.
“The quality of the work has really gone up and up,” Wolf said.
On display through June 12, Art of the West features work from national, award-winning Western painters Clive R. Tyler, Michael Swearngin, Leigh Gusterson and Nancy Smith. Although each has a distinct style, the four complement one another, Wolf said.
“It’s breathtakingly beautiful,” she said. “It all goes together really well. It’s really colorful in different ways.”
Guest artists Patsy E. Lane, Felicia, Nora Larimer and Suzanne Etienne bring their own qualities to the mix, with Wolf noting that Felicia and Lane’s bronze sculptures add dimension to the overall exhibit.
“I wanted more of the West’s West for this exhibit. It is more traditional and impressionistic,” she said, adding that all the contributors’ talents unify in a fluid and elegant way. “Instead of doing separate shows for everybody, I like that everybody is together. It’s nice that everybody is willing to be here in Oklahoma.”
