Mack the strife

Gazette staff May 13th, 2013

Oh, Seattle, isn't it time to move on? Yes, Oklahoma City has your old NBA team. But that was five years ago. Let go of the anger.

The latest manifestation of the Emerald City's green-eyed monster came today courtesy hip-hopper and Seattle native Macklemore, aka Ben Haggerty. On Twitter, he expressed displeasure that his latest hit song with Ryan Lewis, “Can't Hold Us,” has been used to energize Oklahoma City Thunder fans at the Chesapeake Energy Arena.

“OH HELL NO!” tweeted the “Thrift Shop” rapper from his @macklemore handle.

That prompted a tweet from former SuperSonic Detlef Schrempf, who groused “that's ours and not OKC!”

Really? With Seattle's august music legacy, the song that's gonna drive a wedge belongs to … the tag-poppin’ Macklemore? OK, Ben, message received. Maybe the Thunder fans will be able to get pumped up without the Baha Men of rap.

I moved to OKC in 93.  They played enough AC/DC on the radio to kill small animals.

Why in the world they don't just pony up the cash to forever make Thunderstruck the motto is beyond me.

I don't care what you say everytime I hear that song I now think of Oklahoma City and the Thunder!

Deal with it!
