Brown sees green

Gazette staff May 17th, 2013

They say fame is fleeting, but they don't tell you why that’s so. It's because fame ain't got time for dat.

After all, fame is mighty busy these days, what with catapulting folks from viral video to mainstream stardom.

That's the planned trajectory for Sweet Brown — you know, the Oklahoma City resident whose “Lord Jesus, it's a fire!” interview on KFOR Channel 4 became a YouTube phenomenon.

Well, in December, she’ll make a cameo in Tyler Perry's A Madea Christmas, alongside Kathy Najimy and Larry the Cable Guy. Currently, she is in production for a reality series, The Sweet Brown's, which she describes as “a combination of The Jeffersons and The Beverly Hillbillies.”

Any doubts about the quality of such programming can be put to rest now.

“It’s gonna be hilarious,” Sweet Brown told TheGrio.com. “You’re gonna really crack up.”

As for working with Perry, her gushing sounds positively Entertainment Tonight-ready: “Tyler is so awesome. He's very awesome. I would love to work with him again. He just makes you feel at home.”

And oh, lord Jesus, there's more; it's a cottage industry, with a Sweet Brown game app, cookbook and barbecue sauce all in the proverbial pipeline.

A fire? Meh. But a brand name? Somebody definitely got time for dat.
