OKG7 summertime eats

Every week, we give you seven OKC-area restaurants to explore.

Jenn Scott May 22nd, 2013

It’s about to get really hot. When it does, don’t stop eating. Just pick some lighter, fresher options.

Cafe Antigua
1903 N. Classen Blvd.
602-8984

If at all possible, get the special. It’s usually a creative collaboration of regular menu items and the freshest daily ingredients. The cuisine is chiefly Guatemalan, and the breakfast dishes are incredibly tasty. In a hurry? Grab a chocolate banana smoothie.

Zorba’s Mediterranean Cuisine
6014 N. May
zorbasokc.com
947-7788

Whether you’re a vegetarian or a carnivore, this longtime favorite has plenty of options to fill you up. Get the roasted red bell pepper hummus, and if you’re going gluten-free, ask for veggies instead of pita bread. Meat-eaters, get the beef kebabs.

Don Serapio’s Mexican Restaurant
1637 E. Highway 66, El Reno
donserapios.com
262-7744

Start with the poppers, cheddar cheese-stuffed jalapeños. For your meal, get the guizado de rez, which is Mexican beef tips with a special tomato, onion and bell pepper sauce. The vegetarian burrito is filled with rice, beans and Mexican potatoes.

Cafe Kacao
3325 N. Classen Blvd.
cafekacao.com
602-2883

If you’re a red-meat-eater trying to make healthier decisions, the carne asada is a flavorful and lean dish made with thinly sliced steak alongside black beans, salad, grilled onions and a side of the rice of the day. Don’t leave without trying the horchata.

Coolgreens
14201 N. May
coolgreens.com
286-9304

It’s impossible to resist the array of fresh options you have here. Try the wild sockeye salmon, honey-glazed salmon with mixed greens, cumin black beans and sun-dried tomatoes. Prefer something sweet? Try the original tart frozen yogurt.

Kang’s Asian Sushi Bar & Bistro
6600 N. Olie
kangsasiankitchen.com
840-1234

Its summer roll, obviously a fitting seasonal selection, is a delightful combination of shrimp, rice noodles, mixed greens, hoisin and peanut sauce. Pair that with a bowl of miso soup, and you’ve got yourself a light and delicious meal.

Venue 104 Bistro & Catering
10400 S. Western
venue1040ok.publishpath.com
691-6544

On the bistro side of Venue 104, you’ll find Creole crab cake as well as goat cheese and sweet pepper jam fondue for appetizers. Dig into the herb-crusted beef tenderloin or chicken Florentine for dinner. For dessert: chocolate mousse torte or bread pudding.
