Act mature

Gazette staff June 5th, 2013

If there’s one thing Kevin Durant has been lauded for since the beginning of his career (aside from his jumper), it’s his maturity. So when images of the NBA superstar surfaced on Instagram of an extravagant back tattoo in which the word “mature” appeared to be misspelled, it came as even more of a surprise.

The tattoo features an angel clutching a basketball hovering over a portrait of Jesus. Accompanying it is a lengthy Bible verse that reads, “Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything pre-maturely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.”

Sounds great, only, in the initial photo, “mature” seemingly was spelled “mautre,” in a potential body-art gaffe for the ages.

As the Internet flew into one of its tizzies, KD posted a subsequent photo in which the word was spelled correctly, thereby putting the uproar to rest. So now that that’s all behind us, let’s get off the guy’s back, shall we?
