'Wrath' of the titan

Because that hack filmmaker John Ford didn’t do it right in 1940, Lincoln’s Steven Spielberg reported- ly is all hot to produce a new movie adaptation of John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath. Published in 1939, the classic novel follows the Joads, a Sallisaw farming family forced by the Dust Bowl to leave Oklahoma.

Someone tells them, “Californy is the place you ought to be,” so they load up the truck and move to Beverly. Or maybe they don’t get that far; been a long time since we read them there CliffsNotes back in learnin’ school.

Just before the Fourth of July, Deadline Hollywood reported that Spielberg is only set to produce rather than direct, but Chicken-Fried News thinks either way, you can expect golden light to pour like honey through truck windows, all to the tune of another overwrought John Williams score.

And would it be too much to ask for this new batch of Grapes to be in 3-D? Seems like Steinbeck penned Rose of Sharon’s birthing scene with this in-yo-face format in mind.
