As good as he once was

Gazette staff July 24th, 2013

Those masters of money at Forbes have unveiled the “Country Cash Kings 2013,” the top earners in country music over the past year, and we’ll be dadgum if two of the top five aren’t Oklahomans.

While “Good Girl” Carrie Underwood wasn't quite “Blown Away,” coming in at No. 5, with $31 million, it was Toby Keith who outworked and outearned all of his fellow boot-stompers, raking in a cool $65 million – definitely enough to keep him “Chill-axin'” and out of the “Trailerhood.”

No doubt the songwriter's 18 excruciatingly loud I Love This Bar & Grill locations nationwide are responsible for a good chunk of that dough. It also doesn't hurt that he’s had a No. 1 hit on the country charts every year for the past 20! Most of those songs are about drinking and women, but he throws in a political gem every so often.

Whatever the subject, his fans can't get enough.

What were Keith's rival troubadours up to while he was managing his beer-soaked empire and touring every summer? Maybe chugging from one too many red Solo cups. We're not really sure. All we know is his horses won't run low on brew anytime soon.
