We do, however, get our fair share of interesting crimes in Oklahoma, and a recent one took the cake ... er, cookies. Michelle Stephens, 27, faces first-degree burglary and petty larceny charges after breaking into an Oklahoma City home.
The homeowner, a woman named Kelly, discovered Stephens as she walked into the kitchen at 6:30 a.m. after hearing a noise. She found Stephens standing by the pantry in her underwear, masticating her morning snack.
Kelly asked Stephens who she was and what she was doing in her kitchen, reported News Channel 4. Stephens replied, “My name’s Michelle, and I’m just having cookies and milk.”
The stranger then said she had been beaten up, and she entered the home through a kitchen window after removing her pants.
Confections weren’t the only things Stephens found; she rummaged through the refrigerator and kitchen drawers, taking money and jewelry — and pesto and pepper jack cheese.
“Before she’d set anything down on the counter, she put something soft [down] so … it didn’t make a sound,” said Kelly. For example, delicate crocheted coasters.
Stephens escaped, leaving behind a packet of cookies in her rush, when Kelly went to get her husband for help. But police soon caught up to and arrested her. Stephens isn’t the first pantsless burglar and probably won’t be the last. But at least we cookie-lovers can rest easy knowing Yogi Bear preferred pies.
Mmm ... pie.
