LETTERS

Richard Hardin September 25th, 2013

Ref: “On the right side of history” by Adam Soltani (Commentary, Aug. 28, Gazette). Our freedom of religion in this country has always allowed us to criticize other religions, even the Pope, and has allowed us to try to explain our religion to others in hopes they will join ours, which we, naturally, think is the best.

Most people in our country believe their religion is the best, better than anyone else’s, because that is why they belong to the religion of their choice. They picked their religion as the best; otherwise, they would [have] joined some other religion until they were satisfied about their spiritual condition.

Dear Richard,

I wholeheartedly agree with what you said. We have the freedom to criticize other religions, and the freedom of speech and expression allows for that. It is vastly different, however, from passing laws that violate the establishment clause of the 1st amendment of the US Constitution.

Adam Soltani
