Letters to the Editor

Susan Schmidt October 9th, 2013

My husband and I are volunteers, ushering regularly at the Civic Center for the past 7 years. We found the current production of Wicked to be among the top two shows we have seen in 7 years, second only to The Lion King.

We were surprised and disappointed to read Larry Laneer’s review “Which witch?” (Life, Performing Arts, Sept. 11, Oklahoma Gazette), in which he described this performance as a “dud,” the score as “largely forgettable” and the ending as “satisfying as watered-down cream of celery soup.”

Surely he is aware Wicked has won 35 major awards, including a Grammy and three Tony Awards. It was evident to us that every actor was fully engaged in giving his or her best performance to Oklahoma City. It is a shame to think of those who may have missed this Broadway performance because of the unkind and, I believe, inaccurate review by Laneer.
