OKG7 stops for soup

Every week, we give you seven OKC-area restaurants to explore.

Jenn Scott October 9th, 2013

October is a time for all things fall. Delight in something warm and fulfilling!

Soup Soup

7606 N. Western Ave.
soupsoup.webs.com
843-7095

The fall lineup is here. Try festive flavors including autumn bisque, squash, creamy carrot and baked potato. It’s not all soup, though. Pick up specialty casseroles like creamy tomato pasta with chicken, shepherd’s pie and beef enchiladas. Don’t forget dessert — apple cake, apricot bar and pumpkin pie.

Saturn Grill
6432 Avondale Drive
saturngrill.com
843-7114

Soup selections are posted daily, and you can get said soups in a variety of ways. Fill up with a big bowl or have one of the soup specials with a half salad, like the tomato mozzarella or classic Caesar, or with a half sandwich like the spicy steak on flatbread. Take one of the fresh-made desserts to go.

VZD’s Restaurant & Club
4200 N. Western Ave.
vzds.com
524-4203

Tortilla soup — the kind with fresh chicken broth, tomatoes, onions, green peppers, cheese and tortillas chips — always warms the soul. The soup du jour should also do the trick. Pair it with a roasted-pepper quesadilla and you’ve got a meal.

Republic Gastropub
5830 N. Classen Blvd.
republicgastropub.com
286-4577

It’s not like a reason is needed to eat at Republic. With its expansive beer list and the most addictive shoestring fries in the land, the allure is clear. If it’s soup you’re craving alongside fresh-made donuts or a Republic burger, enjoy a bowl of the Vermont white cheddar and ale.

Native Roots Market
131 NE Second St.
nativerootsmarket.com
310-6300

Native Roots moved from Norman to the heart of downtown and is based on the ground floor of the Level Urban Apartments. The market features a deli where lunch and dinner are made fresh every day. Sandwiches, quiche and, of course, a daily soup are all at your fingertips now. There’s a spice bar, too.

Coolgreens
204 N. Robinson Ave.
coolgreens.com
600-6444

Stop in for salads, wraps, smoothies or a combination of it all. If there’s a chill in the air, pair that meal with some soup from selections like white chicken chili, butternut squash, smoky tomato basil, southwest chicken or harvest vegetable. Conclude the meal with one of its frozen yogurts — original tart, chocolate, berry or tropical flavors.

Penny Hill Deli & Subs
1424 W. Lindsey St., Norman
phdeli.com
217-8339

Penny Hill Deli & Subs has been going strong for more than 30 years in the Norman area. Celebrate with its menu items, which include its chicken club, the Cuban, French bread pizza and soups. The spicy chicken, French onion or one of the two soups of the day is sure to do the trick. Get a small size, or feed several with the take-home quart.
