John Marshall High School Principal Corey Harris is stepping down from his Oklahoma City Public Schools position after this school year ends. The administrator has indicated he intends to finish his doctorate, a district spokeswoman said.

The state native was part of a "fresh start" former Oklahoma City Superintendent John Q. Porter implemented last July, when he brought aboard a new leadership team for the $26.3 million, MAPS for Kids-built school.

Kathleen Kennedy, OKCPS executive director for communications and public relations, told Oklahoma Gazette the district has not taken action yet to address who will lead John Marshall after Harris leaves June 20.

"We'll have to post the position for a suitable candidate to fill that position as soon as possible," she said. "The district's sad to see him go, and we appreciate the leadership he's shown over the past year."

A graduate of Tulsa's Booker T. Washington High School, Harris served as principal at PreEminent Charter School in Raleigh, N.C., and Longview Middle School in Memphis, Tenn., before joining OKCPS. "Emily Jerman
