With summertime right around the corner, there is no better time to wake up your green thumb, dust off the gardening gloves, and get the whole family in on the earth-friendly action.

"Family Day Out: Green Family Gardening" " slated for 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, 2401 Chautauqua in Norman " is a fabulous opportunity to see eye-to-eye with nature. Each family member can plant individual seeds, and get lost in the natural wonder of the great outdoors.

Krysten Marshall, Sam Noble marketing specialist, said the event allows attendees to dig in the dirt and leave the day with fascinating gardening tips, as well as forge a deeper bond among family members.

"Green Family Gardening day will mainly focus on bringing the family together while working outdoors," she said. "This is our first year to focus on gardening during a family day, and I think it will definitely be a hit among kids and adults alike."

Each participating family will go home with a container herb garden " not to mention a little Mother Earth underneath its collective fingernails. Admission is $8 for museum members, $10 for nonmembers and free for children ages 4 and younger. Space is limited, and preregistration is required.

As business giant Warren Buffett once said, "Someone's sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago." Catch this environmentally savvy attitude, and go green with the fam. For more information, call 325-4712 or visit the site.
