Online retailer fires back

Thomas Carlson October 22nd, 2013

Regarding the “Pants or No Pants” letter to the editor (Commentary, Sept. 4, Gazette). The author is wrong.

“Many of the products I sell are price-locked in an agreement between retailers and the manufacturers, so no authorized re-seller can offer these products any cheaper than anyone else.”

The Minimum Advertised Pricing laws only allow a manufacturer to control the advertised price. You can sell the item for any amount that you want to. If you look online, you will see websites that show, “Call for better pricing.” I sell some MAP items.

I just add a free gift with the order or show, “Call for better pricing.” If you read the legislation that allowed using MAP, it shows that manufacturers cannot control the actual sale price; only the advertised price.
