During the past several months, Ryan has shown instances of rude behavior during council meetings by interrupting colleagues. His attention has been focused on Ward 2 Councilman Ed Shadid and, in some cases, Ward 4 Councilman Pete White.
Shadid, a mayoral candidate, will face incumbent Mick Cornett in the March 4 election. Ryan is part of the mayor’s Neighborhood Steering Committee. During the Dec. 31 council meeting, council members debated whether to ask the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce to release in its entirety a 2009 study that focused on the feasibility of a convention center hotel. The entire report has never been made public.
As Shadid was making his case in support of the resolution, Ryan popped off, “We’ve heard your comments before, Councilman Shadid.”
Later in the meeting, Ryan butted in while White, who also supported the resolution to open the entire 2009 study, was making a statement.
Without hesitation, White said, “Don’t interrupt me like you did him.”
Ryan, 75, later apologized. Last week, the councilman announced he would not seek re-election when his term expires in 2015.
