Mayor race filing starts Wednesday

Tim Farley January 27th, 2014

Candidates for the Oklahoma City mayor’s post will officially file for office beginning Wednesday. The filing period ends 5 p.m. Friday.

OKC Mayor Mick Cornett announced his bid for a fourth term several months ago. In addition, Ward 2 Councilman Ed Shadid kicked off his mayoral campaign in September. Other potential candidates include retired businessman Joe Nelson and Phil Hughes.

The mayor’s primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 4. A general election, if needed, will be held Tuesday, April 1. The mayoral race is the only one on this year’s municipal election ballot. The general election with the top two voter-getters will be held only if one candidate does not receive more than 50 percent of the total vote.

Candidates must file their paperwork at the Oklahoma County Election Board, 4201 N. Lincoln Boulevard.
