A pet shelter in Yukon rescues dogs and cats slated for euthanasia and preps them for adoption into loving families.
At the shelter, donations of dog food, blankets, treats and toys are always needed and appreciated, in addition to monetary contributions. Pets and People Thrift Store at 322 Elm in Yukon welcomes shoppers and donations for the shelter's pets.
"When you work with homeless pets, helping them toward better lives by means of adoption, your life can't help being enriched in the process," volunteer Ann Smart said. "They touch your heart."
Pets & People Humane Society is a nonprofit, no-kill organization run by volunteers who rescue adoptable dogs and cats from 21 municipal animal control facilities across the state on the day they are to be euthanized.
The organization provides a safe harbor until the animals can be adopted into responsible, loving homes. All pets are spayed and neutered to help prevent birthing more homeless pets.
Dogs and cats may be adopted from the shelter seven days a week, from noon until 5 p.m. For more information, call 350-7387. "Donna Close Murray
