University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University football fans circled Aug. 30 on their respective calendars months ago and are already chomping at the bit in anticipation of the arrival of the 2008 college football season.
So as we sit here waiting for Oklahoma State's season-opening trip to Washington State, and the Sooners' 2008 opener with Tennessee-Chattanooga on Aug. 30, let's make a list of some other things to do " just in case we start feeling a bit anxious at some point in the coming weeks:
5. Take up golf. If you don't already play the game, you don't know what you're missing. Golfing football fanatics get to take out their frustrations on a defenseless white ball, over and over and over.
4. Write your memoirs. Maybe title it "Inside the Mind of a Football-aholic." This is the best of both worlds. Besides giving you something to occupy your time and thoughts, it's a chance to eat, sleep and breathe more football.
3. Family vacation. This is a great way to keep your mind focused on something besides football. Get a map, pick a destination and then load up the car and drive. High gas prices will almost immediately make you forget about any football-related discomfort you were experiencing prior to your trip.
2. Diet. Promise yourself that by the time August rolls around, you will have dropped 20 pounds and regained that youthful figure you once owned. After a few weeks, you will start to realize there are other things in life more important that getting your seasons tickets renewed " such as pizza and enchiladas.
