OKCFC plans to make Yukon Millers Stadium its home turf for soccer games

Devon Green May 6th, 2014

The Oklahoma City Football Club (OKC FC) announced today that the soccer team signed a multiyear lease with the Yukon Public School Board of Education to play at Yukon Millers Stadium. The team expects to be ready for the 2015 North American Soccer League (NASL) season, which begins in April, team organizers said in a Tuesday press statement.

OKC FC and its ownership group, Sold Out Strategies, has been working since January to bring a NASL team to the OKC metro area. The NASL is a professional soccer league in the United States and Canada that includes the Atlanta Silverbacks and the New York Cosmos.

Millers Stadium opened in 2011 with seating for 6,500 and can expand to accommodate more than 12,000. According to a press statement, Yukon Public School Superintendent Jason Simeroth said, "I am thrilled we are able to offer the Yukon community the experience of professional sports right here at home."

"Miller stadium is spectacular, we look forward to creating the NASL's best home-field advantage,” team managing partner Brad Lund said in a media statement.

The next step for the team is to hire a coach. Lund said he has a short list of his top candidates. More will be announced soon. OKC FC will be the second professional soccer team in the OKC metro.
