Teenage girls are always ready to begin the rounds of shopping signaled by the back-to-school season. This year, a teen fashion workshop about personal image could better prepare girls not only for making the best fashion decisions, but also for putting their best foot forward this school year.

On Friday, the Oklahoma County Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension Service will hold a workshop for girls ages 13 to 18 focused on personal image. From skin care and makeup to clothes and attitude, the workshop covers everything a young lady should know to make the best first impressions.

"We're hoping that we'll teach them how to manage the impressions they make and actually take control of the message that they're sending others," said April Adams, Oklahoma County 4-H youth educator and one of the workshop instructors.

Girls will learn how to manage a wardrobe, find complementary color palettes for clothes and cosmetics, and present themselves with poise and good posture. The main sessions for the day include a "Dress for Success" discussion, a presentation about skin care and makeup from a Mary Kay representative, and an attitude and personality seminar.

"They will have gained a better perspective on how they can actually take an active part in controlling the image they portray, and they'll feel better about the image they have," Adams said.

Preregistration for the event is required; a $15 workshop fee covers costs of the sessions. For more information, call 713-1125.
